Welcome to the Epilepsy Foundation of Mississippi’s website. It is our goal to provide the most up to date information for our clients. Did you know, epilepsy and seizure disorders are the third most common neurologoical disorder in the United States after Alzheimer’s disease and strokes? It is equal in prevalence to cerebal palsy, multiple sclerosis and Parkinson’s disease combined. This year another 200,000 people in the U.S. will be diagnosed with epilepsy. Right now, 1 in every 100 people has had or will have a seizure.
In Mississippi, we have an estimated 50,000 Mississippians who live with epilepsy and many more who will be diagnosed this year.
